Vietnamese homegrown brand Pizza 4P’s has officially opened its first international branch and flagship outlet in Cambodia. According to a Facebook post by Pizza 4P’s founder Yosuke Masuko on the 31st of August, the outlet’s expected opening date was delayed due to the novel coronavirus and strict lockdown measures in Cambodia. Currently, no alcohol is served on the premise but devoted fans will be pleased to know that crowd favourites such as the chain’s signature Crab linguine and specialty Burrata cheese make a debut.

Pizza 4P’s, which has been wildly successful since opening its first branch in Ho Chi Minh City in 2011, currently operates 22 restaurants and food trucks throughout Vietnam. Pre-pandemic (2019), the chain had estimated annual revenues of $25 million. The decision to open an outlet in Cambodia follows an extensive study according to Kazuya Kubota, the company’s country director for Cambodia.

According to Kubota, Cambodia has a ‘sufficiently sized creative class’ of potential customers that would appreciate Pizza 4P’s casual yet upscale ambience as well as the chain’s innovative take on authentic Italian fare fused with a Japanese culinary sensibility. Another factor that prompted the opening in Phnom Penh is the country’s proximity to Ho Chi Minh City. The closeness in proximity enables the flagship branch to maintain the quality of perishable food items, particularly the chain’s signature Burrata cheese, which is produced in Vietnam. This is especially important because of Pizza 4P’s reputation and dedication to upholding the quality of its cheese.

The company’s commitment to an eco-friendly sustainability model and ‘zero waste concept’ extends throughout its supply chain. From sourcing a large percentage of products from Cambodia to using approximately 3,000kg of recycled plastic for the new opening’s chairs, tables, cutlery cases and thrash cans. It even has a recycling room that separates garbage into 20 different categories and recycles all its food waste into cricket and worm feed.

The opening will create jobs for approximately 30 staff, with that number expanding to 50 as the situation with COVID-19 improves. It will have an initial capacity for 80 patrons, which will expand to 160 diners as measures ease.
