Vietnam clinches gastronomy prize at the prestigious International Catering Cup in Lyon
A three-man culinary team from Vietnam flew the country’s flag high at the prestigious International Catering Cup in Lyon - considered one of the most prestigious culinary competitions in the world. The competition ran from the 17th of January to the 19th of January and was held in Lyon, France - the gastronomy capital of France.
After two intense days of competition, Vietnam’s three-man team including Chef Truong VU XUAN (team leader), and Chef Hiep NGUYEN VAN (team mate) led and mentored by Chef Hervé Rodriguez (Executive Chef of Herve Dining Room) clinched the coveted award for “Dégustation Café Gourmand” or "Best Gourmet Coffee Dessert” with their spectacular showcase of Vietnamese coffee (Trung Nguyen Coffee) that married texture, skill and flavour in one carefully-crafted and expertly-executed dessert that won over all eight judges including Joël Mauvigney, President-Founder of the International Catering Cup competition.
For the competition, each team had to prepare one cocktail appetiser, fish dish, pork dish and coffee-based dessert. The competition saw twelve finalist teams from around the world take part including Vietnam, Italy, Singapore, Morocco, New Zealand and Brazil, to compete for the title of “Best Caterer in the World”. Additionally, Vietnam was one of only two countries from Southeast Asia to make it to the finals of the International Catering Cup, a contest organised by CNCT - Les artisans Charcutiers Traiteurs, in partnership with AG2R LA MONDIALE - Mes questions pour demain, METRO France, Le Porc Français and Garance.
