Local Roastery: A Turkish Couple’s dream brewed in Vietnam

What happens when a Turkish couple trades their day jobs to chase their nearly decade-long passion for coffee roasting and baking? The result: Local Roastery, a specialty coffee shop in District 7.

Erkut and Guzide, the charming husband-and-wife duo behind Local Roastery

But don’t expect your typical café—Local Roastery is more of a showroom, featuring high-end coffee machines and cutting-edge brewing techniques that showcase their expertise in consultancy and training. Like many cafés in Vietnam, this spot serves as a stage for the owners' skills, and Local Roastery is no exception. And don’t be fooled by Erkut and Guzide, the charming husband-and-wife duo running the place—they’re also the powerhouses behind Prime Trading and Source Vietnam, a coffee roasting training and consultancy.

Coffee Snob Heaven

At Local Roastery, they don’t just brew coffee—they perfect it. Using a mix of science and a Western roast profile, they take Vietnamese beans to the next level. Sugar? Not here. They let the beans speak for themselves. Plus, they’re all about the details—even the water is souped-up with imported minerals, and they make their own crystal-clear ice. Perfectionists, much? Yep, and we’re here for it.

We sampled the Campfire coffee, a nod to the couple's love for camping. It’s similar to French press, but served in charming campfire kettle cups, making it a unique city experience. For just 100k, you get an entire kettle – perfect for sharing with a group and a great value!

Traditional Turkish coffee

A Taste of Turkey

For a taste of Turkey, Local Roastery serves up traditional Turkish coffee in a blue cup that’s said to protect you from jealousy. The fun doesn’t stop there—flip your cup upside down, pop a ring on top, and let the coffee grounds cool. According to Turkish tradition, those grounds can even tell your future! Who needs a fortune teller when you’ve got coffee this good?

Sourdough Goals

Coffee isn’t the only thing they’re obsessed with. The owner’s been nursing a 6-year-old sourdough starter since 2018, and they bake their loaves fresh to order. Talk about commitment! If you’re a bread lover, prepare to be amazed.

If sourdough isn't your thing, Local Roastery also offers tempting alternatives like homemade cinnamon rolls and Turkish bagels, all freshly made daily. Their sourdough loaves come fresh from the oven, and the cranberry walnut bread (150k) beautifully combines tangy cranberries, crunchy walnuts, a hint of sourness, and the perfect chewiness in every bite.

But, if you can only choose one item, opt for the Turkish bagel (50k) recommended by Guzide and pair it with a Turkish coffee—trust us, one bite and you’ll see why.

Neighbourhood cafe community vibes

As if it couldn’t get better, they’ve teamed up with Paperbacks- an English bookshop in Saigon for a book exchange corner, the idea is to create a community-run bookshelf sustained by their customers. So, grab a coffee, trade a book, and soak up all the international culture, tradition, and good vibes that @localroastery is serving. This place is where coffee meets community.
